Jones loves to sleep. He sleeps in every morning pretty much. On rare occasions he begs his daddy, the night before, to wake him when he gets up. This morning Jones wanted Cody to wake him up to go check the cows and our new axis deer. That meant momma got to sleep in late:). They pulled in about 10:30 with breakfast burritos from town!
We came across this site the other day that was called "the 14 best swimming holes in Texas!!" It just so happens 10 of them are within a 90 miles radius....score!
We ventured to the closest one today at Colorado Bend State Park. The river was low low low. We splashed around a bit to cool off.
We found a baby bull frog
We passed this 10 yr old today in a canoe......with a ferret, in a life jacket. Jones oohed and awed over this little creature and the little boy who owned it said, "he loves to swim too," and threw him in........ I've never seen a ferret swim so fast if at all. The boy was impressed with his ferret swimming skills but that ferret was pissed and was trying to get his hiney in that boat as fast as he could! The boy kept showing off his ferret swimming skills and that ferret had to be yelling choice words at his owner.....
The river was pretty and very clear! It had a nice little current to it and an alligator gar swam passed us..........
They had a place where u could hike a mile to a waterfall. I wanted to do that and so did Jones. We drove up the mountain to park, loaded our bag pack down with water, marinated in sunscreen and took off at 2:30 with the sun straight up and 102 outside. We were going along just fine, enjoying our nature walk. Cody happy, Jones happy, Karen happy. We pass a couple who look like they are about to die. We keep walking. We pass another couple who look like they are about to die. I ask them if we are close to the falls yet(we have walked 1/2 mile) and she says NO, you just got started. Cody wide-eyed, Jones happy, Karen happy. We pass a big group and the first lady we pass looks at my water bottle, looks at Cody's water bottle and says, " I hope y'all have more water than that." Cody wide-eyed, Jones happy, Karen pissed. I tell her I'm loaded down with water in my bag and ask them how the hike is. They all say its treacherous, steep and far far away. We've gone about a mile so far which we thought the falls were a mile because that's what the map says.
Cody suggests we just turn around because he will be the one to carry jones if need be and we already have a mile to walk back in the sun and in 102 degree temps. Cody's pissed, Jones happy, Karen wide eyed. I talk him into WE CAN DO IT and we truck on. Another half mile and not there yet I finally throw in the towel and we turn around.
Cody pissed, Jones pissed, Karen pissed.
