Hill Country Fun

We woke up Saturday to our air conditioner out.....

That put a damper in our plans. We were going to make a day trip to schlitterbahn but we had to wait around for the air guy. He showed up about 3, left a at 4........... Air still not working:/. We decided to pack our bags and get out of dodge a couple of days.

Jones was beyond thrilled to load up after a long nap! He was ready to roll! We took off towards Fredericksburg and it was crowded! We stopped and had dinner and it was yummy, then headed to Kerville. We stayed at the YO Ranch hotel. It was very nice with old flair. We swam our little hearts outs and then hit the hay.... err snack.
The next day we headed to the Guadalupe River! It was so hot and the river felt so good. I lubed Jones up with sunscreen, got all the boys stuff situated and I forgot to put sunscreen on myself....... I got toasty red! Ouch!

We paddled up river a couple hours while jones jump in and out of the boat. It was a lot of fun.
We stayed in another hotel that night and they had a fun pool too. We were overly tired that night. Jones kept saying, "can we go to bed yet!!!" Ha!
The next day we got up early and headed over to another ranch to look at some big bucks. Jones was in heaven. After we saw the bucks and took pictures the owner took us on a little tour of the ranch. He showed us a dinosaur track in their creek bed. It was so cool. Jones still talks about our dinosaur adventure at Glen Rose and him showing us this dinosaur foot was icing on the cake. It was a great ending to our mini vacation!
We fed lots and lots of catfish!
Jones got a good lil tan, I got a good gigantuwon sunburn.
On the way home we stopped in Medina and ate at the Apple Store. It was yummy!
Jones was worn smooth out and slept all the way home.
We were all looking forward to sleeping in our beds but our air was still not working. We packed more bags and headed to the lodge.
"Take our picture, momma!"
Hopefully our air will be back on this evening!

River Rats

Jones loves to sleep. He sleeps in every morning pretty much. On rare occasions he begs his daddy, the night before, to wake him when he gets up. This morning Jones wanted Cody to wake him up to go check the cows and our new axis deer. That meant momma got to sleep in late:). They pulled in about 10:30 with breakfast burritos from town!

We came across this site the other day that was called "the 14 best swimming holes in Texas!!" It just so happens 10 of them are within a 90 miles radius....score!

We ventured to the closest one today at Colorado Bend State Park. The river was low low low. We splashed around a bit to cool off.

We found a baby bull frog

We passed this 10 yr old today in a canoe......with a ferret, in a life jacket. Jones oohed and awed over this little creature and the little boy who owned it said, "he loves to swim too," and threw him in........ I've never seen a ferret swim so fast if at all. The boy was impressed with his ferret swimming skills but that ferret was pissed and was trying to get his hiney in that boat as fast as he could! The boy kept showing off his ferret swimming skills and that ferret had to be yelling choice words at his owner.....
The river was pretty and very clear! It had a nice little current to it and an alligator gar swam passed us..........

They had a place where u could hike a mile to a waterfall. I wanted to do that and so did Jones. We drove up the mountain to park, loaded our bag pack down with water, marinated in sunscreen and took off at 2:30 with the sun straight up and 102 outside. We were going along just fine, enjoying our nature walk. Cody happy, Jones happy, Karen happy. We pass a couple who look like they are about to die. We keep walking. We pass another couple who look like they are about to die. I ask them if we are close to the falls yet(we have walked 1/2 mile) and she says NO, you just got started. Cody wide-eyed, Jones happy, Karen happy. We pass a big group and the first lady we pass looks at my water bottle, looks at Cody's water bottle and says, " I hope y'all have more water than that." Cody wide-eyed, Jones happy, Karen pissed. I tell her I'm loaded down with water in my bag and ask them how the hike is. They all say its treacherous, steep and far far away. We've gone about a mile so far which we thought the falls were a mile because that's what the map says.

Cody suggests we just turn around because he will be the one to carry jones if need be and we already have a mile to walk back in the sun and in 102 degree temps. Cody's pissed, Jones happy, Karen wide eyed. I talk him into WE CAN DO IT and we truck on. Another half mile and not there yet I finally throw in the towel and we turn around.

Cody pissed, Jones pissed, Karen pissed.

Fun Summer Nights

Cody was supposed to meet the boys on the other side of the ranch to do a quick run through of a pasture to run all the deer out. I had asked Cody if we could tag along, because we like stuff like that, but since he didn't really know the plan he said to wait.

I started making a lasagna for dinner and as I was wrapping it up Cody called and said we could go if we hurry. I thru the lasagna in the oven, turned the oven off and got us ready real quick before Cody picked us up. All the other guys picked up their wives too.

Since I had a huge lasagna in the oven we invited everyone over to devour it after we finished the job.

After dinner Jason entertained our lil monkey:)

Jason's wife, Whitney, took these adorable pictures!

Scouting for animals.

"I see sumpthin!"
"Get em Jason!"

"Got em!"

He was so proud of his imaginary pig!

Weekend Away

Cody was going to be busy all weekend so I decided to pack our bags, call my sistas, and book a hotel. We chose Glen Rose. It was a neat town with lots of stuff for the kiddos.

We swam while we waited for everyone to arrive. The water was so cold....brrrrrr!
We warmed up in the "hot pool". Jones was intrigued by this little jewel. I almost didn't get him out........

My sisters finally arrived and the fun drama began.
The next morning we woke and went to Dinosaur National Park. We checked out dinosaur world. It was pretty cool and def a good time for Jones.
Jones got to dig for dinosaur bone parts. He had a whole bowl full of neat stuff and at the end they let all the kids pick out their 3 favorite dinosaur bone part things, ha!
We got to search for gemstones. It was fun digging thru pebbles for the cool stuff.
Aunt K went back to the hotel to nap so Jbabe and I found a river to play in. They had huge rocks to climb on too. We got a good lil workout and a good lil tan while we were there!
There was no sand in the river, it was all rock. It was a lot of fun!
I didn't bring towels so we dried off while we climbed rocks!

Our last night at the hotel we wanted to get in the hot tub. When we got there, there were 7 young teenagers just sitting on the edge playing on their phones and taking selfie after selfie. We watched Jones swim for a bit waiting for them to leave. But they never did......

We eventually talked Jones into going over to the hot tub and jump in to scoot them over:). They moved over and we followed:). And they continued to take selfie after selfie....... My niece took this pic of the selfie actions and it's greatness!

The weekend getaway was not what I had planned but Jones had a fun time and that's all that matters!
