Jones' First Hunt

Oh, baby Jones you are your father made over! Jones goes around our house with his pretend gun(pvc pipe) and likes to shoot all the big bucks(deer mounts) in our house on a daily basis.  When he gets tired of shooting the big bucks he then wonders over to the quack quacks(duck mount) and begins to fire away.  Some days he is so excited because, "I got em' momma" and some days aren't as good, "awe missed!"  Cody promised him about a week ago that they would go shoot a big buck.  Well Jones has not forgotten!  So Cody decided to go take him after a big Doe instead!  They were gonna go yesterday but Jones ended up taking a 4 hour nap....poor baby is still not feeling 100% and coughing his little lungs out.  Today I went to town to do a little shopping while Cody was home for lunch.  He fed Jones and put him down for his nap.  Well apparently little man was too excited to sleep because after 1 hour he was up yelling, "go shoot big buck with daddy, mommy!!" "get me" "come on" come on, mommy"  So I went in and got him and he was not in the best of mood.  I texted Cody and told him to get home PRONTO because Jones was in a mood and has a very good memory!  He whined the WHOLE time I got him dressed.  I figured he would have been excited getting dressed up in his cammo......not so much!  When Cody finally got home he chippered up a little.....not much!
On our way to the back of the ranch we saw a porky pine way up in a tree hanging over the road.  Cody was excited and got out to shoot him.  Jones followed and was SO excited.  I used our new camcorder we got for Christmas and got it all on film.  It's too funny.  Cody wanted to watch it when we got back in the truck and Jones wanted to watch it too!

We drove around a bit with no luck on a native Doe.  All we saw were ear tag does that weren't shootable.  We finally stopped and sat in a stand for about 20 minutes....until Jones could not last any longer. He would not be quiet..ha....imagine that!

We finally got down and drove around a bit.  Jones was a fussy monkey...which is very rare for him.  Cody kept telling J if he didn't stop whining he was going to take him home....he had said it about 10 times and I finally told him if he was going to threaten that again he better do it!  Well he threatened it again so we headed home.  As we were heading back we spotted a good mature doe! So we caved and didn't take him home.  Cody aimed, I got the camera out and he shot this doe.  He shot from the truck and it was so loud.  Jones didn't even flinch.  He started hooraying and high fiving daddy and saying, "you got him daddy, you got him, shoot big doe, shoot big doe!"  Cody had a very proud daddy  moment!

Luckily Cody is strong and was able to load this big one up on his own!  Jones was happy for the rest of the night!
It's also time for the bucks to start shedding their antlers and it is even more exciting when they drop them by a feeder so we get to keep them and not hunt for them!  Jones was so excited when we came up on these big ones!  He kept saying, "look, mommy, look!"

When we got done Cody dropped me and J off at the house to start dinner and he cleaned to deer for meat.  He wants beef jerky with this so I will be busy next week........fun.  While I cooked J sat up on the counter munching on everything and I knew he would not be hungry to eat with us.  I didn't even pull his high chair up.  When we sat down Jones climbed up in the chair beside me, and onto the table and got a piece of bread.  We just laughed.  Parenting at it's finest!  He sat there the whole time like a little gentlemen and ate his garlic bread.  He was so thrilled we let him stay up there, he knew he was doing something he shouldn't and it made him that more excited when we let him.
Jones is a very sweet Lil guy and doesn't get in trouble much and when he does get in trouble he listens and minds well.  As long as he behaves when corrected it's nice to let him be in charge some and let him get away with certain things every now and then.  Especially when he is so cute doing them.

Jones,
You have made your daddy's day today!
